Grand Duchess Anna Pavlovna spent her childhood and youth mainly in Pavlovsk, the favourite residence of her mother, Empress Maria Feodorovna. Here on June 6, 1816 a festivity took place devoted to a wedding of Anna Pavlovna and William II, Prince of Orange.
Comparatively small, the Great Palace grips imagination with its perfect harmony, proportionality and elegance. It was built by Charles Cameron in 1782-1786. Later, architect Vincenzo Brenna enlarged the palace. The brilliant decorator and landscape designer Pietro Gonzaga designed the interiors of the palace. Damaged badly during the Second World War the palace was restored. Nowadays it’s a nice place to visit and to feel the atmosphere of Anna’s times.
